A New Look and a New Outlook: the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500
One look at the 2022 Sierra 1500 tells you that this isn’t just an ordinary truck. GMC’s full-size pickup truck has been given a mid-cycle refresh, which includes an updated engine lineup and two new trims. Both the interior and exterior have gotten a spiffy facelift, elevating the Sierra 1500 from a nice truck to “Hey, now that’s a nice truck!” Don’t believe us? As the GMC dealer near you, we would be happy to show you this new model so you can see the updates for yourself.
With this refresh, GMC demonstrates that a hard-working truck can have more than just one dimension. From the off-road-eager AT4X to the top-shelf Denali Ultimate, the 2022 Sierra 1500 lineup understands that all work and no play makes anyone a dull person. Ramping up the performance and adding technology that makes sense both inside and out of the cabin helps this full-size truck reach a new level of purpose. At the same time, the bold new design is enough to make even the most devoted sedan driver take a second glance. The 2022 Sierra 1500 sports an array of helpful updates that are sure to delight drivers.
Power and Performance in the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500
GMC understands that not all pickup drivers have the same needs. Some need larger cargo beds. Some need to pull heavy loads. Some have weekend gigs running through the mud. For that reason, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered with a variety of engines.
The 2.7L Turbo High-Output engine of previous years has been carefully re-engineered to provide 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque–a torque increase of over 20 percent. As a result, this engine is capable of trailering loads up to 9,400 pounds. Those looking for extra pep might look instead at the 5.3L V8 engine, which provides 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, this responsive engine is standard on the Denali and SLT trims but can be optioned into the Pro, SLE, and Elevation trims to replace the standard 2.7L Turbo.
Those who choose to explore the new Denali Ultimate and AT4X trims are treated to a 6.2L V8 engine that delivers 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Featuring Dynamic Fuel Management technology and a 10-speed automatic transmission, this engine is able to handle trailer loads of up to 13,000 pounds, making it a standout in the lineup. For those who prefer the raw power of diesel, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered with a 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine. Standard on the rugged AT4 trim, this tough engine offers 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft torque. Rear-wheel drive trucks equipped with the diesel engine can tow up to 13,200 pounds, while four-wheel drive versions still have a 13,000-pound tow maximum.
Introducing the New 2022 Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate and AT4X
The Sierra 1500 trims that many drivers have come to know and love will continue to be available in 2022, including the Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, and Denali. However, there will be two additional models added to the lineup: the Denali Ultimate and the AT4X.
The Denali Ultimate manages to take the Sierra 1500’s already-opulent Denali trim to the next level. It comes with several exterior details not available on other models in the lineup, including a Vader Chrome grille and 22” aluminum wheels in low gloss black. The interior is also unique to the Denali Ultimate, featuring full-grain leather, Paldao wood, and chrome.
Technology is also a strong suit in the Denali Ultimate. From 16-way power-adjustable front seats with heating, ventilation, and massage settings, to the 12-speaker Boase sound system with Centerpoint surround sound, it’s clear that this truck was designed to be a haven for the driver. Also standard on the Denali Ultimate is GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance technology, including hands-free trailering and automatic lane change. This technology allows drivers to take their hands off the wheel while the truck maintains proper following distance and speeding, including calculating additional braking needs when pulling a trailer. When not hauling, the automatic lane change feature gauges the distance to change lanes automatically, as needed.
The Sierra 1500 AT4X and the Denali Ultimate share an engine and a sound system, but they have very different personalities. The AT4X has been touted as “The Peak of Premium Off-Roading,” thanks to its rough-and-ready suite of features. Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers with separate spool valves, ruggedly tuned front and rear springs and suspension, and front and rear electronic locking differentials, this truck is equipped to crawl and climb with the best of them. Also on board is a low-speed Terrain Mode with one-pedal crawling technology.
More Features for All To Enjoy
GMC also understands that different drivers have different needs inside the cabin as well. Offering a range of cab sizes and configurations, from the three-seat regular cab and the six-passenger double cab, the Sierra 1500 allows drivers to select the features that best meet their needs. Standard on all 2022 Sierra 1500s is the GMC Pro Safety package, which includes a full array of safety and driver assistance equipment. This includes Forward Collision Alert with Automatic Emergency Braking and Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and Buckle to Drive.
With the exception of the entry Pro trim, the Sierra 1500 includes a 13.4-inch touchscreen premium infotainment system, which is offered with built-in Google services, allowing you to download apps and use Google Maps and Google Assistant while you’re on the road. Also offered on the Sierra 1500 is an all-new digital Driver Information Center, which allows drivers to choose a variety of screen configurations to display important vehicle information on the 12.3-inch screen. Drivers may also select the available multicolor 15-inch Head-Up Display, with a range of page views that allow you to keep your eyes on the road.
