A Guide to Buick Dashboard Symbols
Parking Brake and Brake Fluid Warning Light
If this stays on after releasing the parking brake or illuminates while you drive, your brake fluid level may be low.
Check Engine Warning Light
Your Buick engine isn’t working as it should. This may light up if there’s a lack of power or stuttering as you press the accelerator.
Electric Power Steering Warning Light
Try turning the car off and back on again after 30 seconds to potentially fix this issue.
Exhaust Particulate Filter Warning Light
This filter may be blocked with debris and need to be cleaned.
Exhaust Fluid Warning Light
The diesel exhaust fluid level is low, which means your engine may not be able to start.
Coolant Temperature Warning Light
The engine could be overheating due to low levels of coolant or a more serious issue such as a head gasket failure.
Oil Pressure Warning Light
Oil temperature may be too high or the oil level/pressure is too low, which could indicate oil change service is needed.
Low Tire Pressure Warning Light
Your Buick’s tire pressure monitoring system is notifying you to check your tire pressure.
Charging System Warning Light
If this comes on while you’re driving, the alternator may not be producing electricity and the car is running off battery power.
Anti-lock Brake System Warning Light
This light has to do with making an abrupt stop or if you’re in inclement weather conditions like slippery or icy roads.
Electronic Stability Control Warning Light
There may be a problem with your Buick’s traction control.
Glow Plug Warning Light
When your diesel engine is warming up, wait until the light goes off before driving your car.
Airbag/Supplemental Restraint System Light
When this turns on, at least one aspect of the airbag safety system is not working correctly.
Automatic Emergency Braking Light
Your automatic emergency braking system is unavailable because the sensor is too hot, too cold and/or blocked.
Immobilizer Indicator Warning Light
An immobilizer is an electronic security device that prevents the car from running unless the right key is used. This light turns on when your Buick recognizes your key.
Fuel Cap Warning Light
If the gas cap isn’t closed properly, this light turns on.
Headlight/Tail Light Out Warning Light
One or more of your headlights or tail lights are not working.
Adaptive Front Lighting System Light
This light means your adaptive front lighting system, which helps improve visibility and response time by turning the headlights as you turn the wheel, may not be working properly.
Lane Keeping Assist System Light
Lane Keep Assist System detects if you’re straying from your lane and its warning light turns on when there’s something wrong with the system.
Maintenance Required Warning Light
Your vehicle is due for maintenance and should be brought to our Buick service center in Minot.
